Description:   Opened: 2015-03-09 01:42
There's a blank line inserted automatically when I use templates. And a space
in the end.

Example

[Template begins after ------ in the next line]
------
Subject: <-- note the space here

------
[Templates ends before ------ in the previous line]

results in:

[Template begins after ------ in the next line]
------
<-- Why is this blank line inserted?
Subject: <-- note the space here

 <-- space inserted here, why?
------
[Templates ends before ------ in the previous line]

1. this is not a P1
2. what's your exact template? Attach as text file. Which case, Write / Reply?
3. what's your quote header. Other settings?
[x] Use HTML. [x] Replace line breaks etc. ...
4. quote type (reply on top / reply at bottom / on top with sig at bottom)?
5. html or plain text mode?
6. What is your setting in Global Settings / Number of line breaks at top?

No replys or signatures are involved.

Plain text mode.

> 6. What is your setting in Global Settings / Number of line breaks at top?

How do I find out about that?

No line breaks at top are added when I disable your addon.

1. Click on the Advanced button on the ST4 settings window.
2. Click the second tab (Global Settings)
there is a group called "Mail Content" with a setting
Number of line breaks at top (I believe the default is 1 line). set it to 0.

Unfortunately, we do not (yet) support having %subject% in the "New Email"
template, but that might happen yet. We would just have to be clever enough
about replacing it when you leave the subject line above the actual Email.

For the moment, you can do:

subject: %cursor%

I would also recommend using <br> for line breaks and NOT using the [x] replace
line breaks with <br> option instead.

Why is it set to "1"? If I want to use a top text as in my case its a bad
thing.

Can you please add it?

More people use "No subject" in the subject field to get anonymous by not
sharing meta data to spying eyes. Using "Subject: " in the message field
instead is very useful.

I would, but it is difficult. Can you add a new feature request to Bugzilla? At
least so I get a reminder. By the way it would only work if you write the
subject in the subject line first and then jump into the email. So if you leave
the subject line empty then ST4 won't be able to "invent" one for you :)

Thay's not a good reason to use it. If you are using no Subject you are bound
to piss off the person you send it to, but maybe that is what you want?

I get hundreds of emails every week, emails with no (or non-desciptive) subject
are not welcome, as nobody is so important that their name only just jumps into
my eyes when I review my messages. Subjects are important. Also, who do you
send your emails to? If you don't trust them with your information maybe you
shouldn't send them mail ...

...and if you are using a free / public mail server such as google, chances are
they are also reading the contents of your Email anyway (and not just the
header fields)

"No subject" is de-facto standard in anonymous communication circles.

That's news to me. I have a lot of mailing lists and also private and
professional email exchanges, I would usually think somebody rude or just a
complete newbie when they use "No subject".

So what does one discuss under that heading? :-)

I honestly couldn't imagine...

That is the whole point, they want it to look like faulty/uninteresting/no clue
emails. The persons who communicate make sure that they read their "No subject"
emails.

I think you should dig a bit deeper on this as I'm sure it will inspire you to
something good.

I am going to include this requirement in [Bug 25904] which is going to handle
setting various mail headers from the template and will also include ability to
set subject = "". Currently proposed usage would be

%header(subject, "")%

Marking this one as duplicate of 25904, more detail to follow on there...
